Overview
Across the world, while we wait for broadcast technologies to mature, 3G mobile technologies represent the only practical alternative to deliver Mobile TV. Yet; 3G networks are often not designed to cope with band-width demanding rich media applications like video. What issues will carriers encounter when launching their services? How can we best plan and dimension a Mobile TV service to work around these issues? In this workshop, we will discuss practical set-ups and share advice on how to successfully implement live and on-demand mobile services, based on successful projects in Nordic European markets, with reference cases.
Content Ingestion and Adaptation:
- How to successfully capture content and adapt the same to mobile formats
- What codecs are best suited for what terminals?
- How can one best code video to cope with unstable bit rate environments?
Content Management: How to Successfully:
- Run a live service
- Manage black-out periods
- Coordinate rights
- Set up short-term conceptual projects
Content Delivery:
- Handset detection - Ensuring that the correct clip is delivered to the correct handset
- Network optimization - Dynamically optimizing the quality of streaming material by monitoring feedback from the handset and network
- DRM - Using best of breed systems to protect your content
